Your Summer Home Maintenance Guide

Your Summer Home Maintenance Guide

August 10, 2016

Spring has thawed and rejuvenated our outdoor spaces and now Canadians are enduring the summer heat. domilya Group is always working to help people love their homes that’s why we wanted to share a helpful list of summer home maintenance projects to keep your house in great condition.

Summer Home Maintenance Checklist:
1. Get Your Air Conditioner Serviced. Checking to see if the coils are clean and that there is no faulty wiring will help prevent any sort of fire hazard risks. Inspecting your refrigerant levels keeps your unit running smoothly which will keep your electricity bills low. Make sure you also change your filter – ideally at least every season. Changing it more frequently in the summer when the unit is running daily is also recommended.

2. Check Your Gutters And Roof. Get out that ladder and check out what is happening on top of your house or bring in a professional to assess both areas. Being aware of your roof’s condition (loose or damaged shingles) can eliminate the surprise of a leak and can contain problems before they become a bigger issue.

Check your gutters for any clogs and watch for areas not draining well.

3. Clean The Exterior. If you have a pressure washer, this is the easiest way to go about cleaning siding, brick or stone exterior as well as any shutters or garage doors. Removing dirt, stains or mildew will extend the life of the materials on the exterior of your house. Bring in some window cleaners or take to cleaning them yourself with some good old-fashioned elbow grease. Keep in mind that a pressure washer may be too powerful to use on the windows.

4. Clean Out The Garage. Go through boxes or items that may have been placed in the garage over the winter months. What can you get rid of, what needs repair? This is also a good time to take stock of summer tools such as lawn mowers and hoses to make sure they are in good working order.

Taking regular care of your home is one way to be ready for any home renovations you may decide to undertake in the coming months or years. If you are thinking about renovating your Oakville, Burlington, Milton or Mississauga home, contact domilya Group to set up a consultation.
